Mary Ruth Walker, 96, formerly of Alachua, Florida, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Bumpass, following an extended illness.
She was a life-long follower of the Christian faith and member of her favorite local church. She was a beloved mother, homemaker, and sometimes bank clerk and retail sales clerk. She loved flower arrangement and was a frequent volunteer in elementary schools. She loved to make clothes for her daughter and grandchildren.
She was born October 5, 1912, to the late Jesse Lee and Ellen Corley. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Clark Walker and son, Ralph Jackson Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Clemmons and husband, Robert; her grandchildren, Dana Beardsworth, of Virginia Beach, Robert W. Clemmons, of Holly Springs, NC, Lily Backer, of Bumpass, and Fred Walker, of Alachua, FL; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 1100 Boulders Pkwy, Suite # 601, Richmond, Virginia, 23225.
Visitation and memorial service will be held at Lacy Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 15 .
Interment will be in Newnansville Cemetery, Alachua County, Florida.
